Richard Laugs (10 March 1907 in Hagen - 1978 in Mannheim) was a well-known German conductor and pianist. Laugs was the son of conductor Robert Laugs. He studied in Munich and Berlin under both Joseph Pembaur and Artur Schnabel amongst others. After his academic studies he undertook a concert tour as a pianist and worked as a Répétiteur in Hannover and Berlin. In 2000 his widow and the Mannheimer law professor Claus Meissner created the Beethoven Klavierwettbewerb Richard Laugs (Beethoven piano competition Richard Laugs) in Laugs' memory.

  • Richard Laugs (* 10. März 1907 in Hagen; † 1978 in Mannheim) war ein deutscher Dirigent und Pianist. Laugs war der Sohn des Dirigenten Robert Laugs. Er studierte in München und Berlin, unter anderem war er Schüler von Joseph Pembaur und Artur Schnabel. Nach seinem Studium unternahm er Konzertreisen als Pianist und war Korrepetitor in Hannover und Berlin. Von 1945 bis 1951 war Laugs erster Kapellmeister am Nationaltheater in Mannheim. Er erhielt einen Lehrauftrag an der Musikhochschule Mannheim und wurde 1951 ihr Direktor. 1955 wurde er zum Professor ernannt. (de)
