John Scofield (born December 26, 1951, Dayton, Ohio, United States), often referred to as "Sco", is an American jazz-rock guitarist and composer, who has played and collaborated with Miles Davis, Dave Liebman, Joe Henderson, Charles Mingus, Joey DeFrancesco, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Pat Martino, Mavis Staples, Phil Lesh, Billy Cobham, Medeski Martin & Wood, George Duke, Jaco Pastorius, John Mayer, Robert Glasper, and Gov't Mule. At ease in the bebop idiom, Scofield is also well versed in jazz fusion, funk, blues, soul, and rock.

Após conhecer a música de Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall e Pat Martino começou a se interessar por jazz. De 1970 a 1973 estudou no afamado Berklee College of Music em Boston. Entre 1982 e 1986 tocou com Miles Davis. Em seu disco "Überjam", de 2002, ao final da faixa "Offspring", pode-se ouvir o trecho inicial da canção "Adeus Maria-Fulô", como gravado pela banda brasileira Os Mutantes, em seu disco de estreia, "Os Mutantes", de 1968.
