Il a effectué des études de violon, violoncelle au conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Bayonne tout en étudiant aussi la guitare classique. Il s'installe à Paris et devient arrangeur, compositeur et accompagnateur de nombreux artistes de variétés (Al Jarreau, Catherine Lara et Michel Jonasz) tout en conservant un pied dans le jazz en étant le bassiste du trio de Richard Galliano. En 1993, il devient l'ambassadeur des guitares Godin pour le monde. En 2007, Sylvain Luc remporte un Djangodor dans la catégorie « musicien confirmé ». (fr)
