Michel Godard (3 October 1960, Héricourt, near Belfort, France) is a French avant-garde jazz and classical musician. He plays tuba and the predecessor of the tuba, a brass instrument known as the serpent. At 18, Godard was a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio-France. He has also been member of the French National Jazz Orchestra and the Arban Chamber Brass quintet, and has played with the Ensemble Musique Vivante, the ancient music Ensemble La Venice and "XVIII-21Musique de Lumieres".

  • Michel Godard, né en 1960 à Héricourt est un musicien français. Compositeur et tubiste, il a largement contribué à sortir le tuba de son rôle en utilisant des techniques de didjeridoo sur son tuba, par exemple, ou en jouant les parties de violons, notamment les parties du soliste, des Quatre Saisons de Vivaldi... En règle générale, on entend le tuba de Michel Godard là où on ne l'attend pas. Il joue également du serpent, instrument à vent à embouchure (sans pistons, parfois doté de clés) de tessiture basse, qui surgit aujourd'hui du néant, car cette basse du cornet à bouquin avait été abandonnée depuis le milieu du XIXe siècle environ. Il enseigne cet instrument dans le département de musique ancienne du Conservatoire de Paris. (fr)
