Maurice Alphonse Jacques Fombeure (born in Jardres (Vienne) 23 September 1906; died at La Verrière (Yvelines) 1 January 1981) was a 20th-century French writer and poet. The son of an agricultural family from Poitou, he studied at the École normale (Normal school) in Poitiers and then at the École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud. He taught in Parisian lycées, including the Lycée Lavoisier, but remained always attached to his region of birth. Very active in the literary circles of the capital, he was awarded the Grand Prix for poetry by the town of Paris in 1958.A museum has been dedicated to him in Bonneuil-Matours, which contains originals of his works as well as numerous personal effects.

Issu d'une famille d'agriculteurs du Poitou, sa mère meurt a sa naissance, il va alors passer son enfance à Bonneuil-Matours (Vienne) chez ses grands-parents et en compagnie de son père. Il fait ses études au collège puis, en 1922, entre à l'École normale de Poitiers. Il rencontre bientôt deux poètes qu'il admire : Max Jacob et André Salmon. Poursuivant ses études à l'École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud, il publie son premier recueil en 1930, année de son mariage. Il est ensuite professeur de lettres à Mirecourt, à Arras, à Saint-Germain-en-Laye puis à Paris au collège Lavoisier, mais reste toujours très attaché à sa régi (fr)
