Carmélia Alves (February 14, 1923 – November 3, 2012) was a Brazilian singer known as "Queen of Baião," as she was one of the country's best known baião performers. Baião is a folk rhythm popular in Northeast Brazil. Alves began her career at the Hotel Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, where she performed covers of hits by Carmen Miranda. However, she devoted her career to baião. Her friend, baião and accordionist Luiz Gonzaga, influenced her decision to pursue the music of Northeast Brazil. Alves formed a group of professional singers from the 1950s in 2000.

Sie wurde als die „Rainha do Baião“, die Königin des Baião, bezeichnet. Carmélia Alves wurde in Bangor, einem Stadtteil im Westen von Rio de Janeiro geboren. Sie starb im Alter von 89 Jahren, am 3. Dezember 2012, an multiplem Organversagen im Krankenhaus von Jacarepaguá, einem Stadtteil im Westen von Rio de Janeiro. Ihr Bruder ist der Sänger Noel Alves. (de)

Nomeada por Luís Gonzaga a "Rainha do Baião", fez sucesso na década de 1950 com Sabiá na gaiola. Reconhecida no Brasil e na América Latina, vendeu milhares de cópias, o que obrigou a gravadora Continental de Buenos Aires a abrir outra filial para conter a venda tão grande. Ganhou todos os prêmios importantes da época, que estão expostos em um museu. Foi croone da boate do hotel Copacabana Palace e cantou sambas no estilo de Carmem Miranda. Foi integrante do grupo "Cantoras do Rádio", formado em 1988, ao lado das amigas Ellen, Violeta e Carminha. (pt)
