Boskovich was born in Kolozsvár, Transylvania, Austria-Hungary (now Cluj-Napoca, Romania). The origin of his family and of his name was the town Boskovich in Moravia. In Cluj, Boskovich studied in a Jewish high school called "Culture" which accommodated both Neolog and Orthodox Jews. In 1920, Alexander joined the local Jewish organization "Hashomer" in which he was active for four years.

  • Alexander Uriah Boskovitch (* 16. August 1907 in Cluj; † 13. November 1964 in Tel Aviv) war ein israelischer Komponist und Musikpädagoge. Boskovitch studierte in Paris bei Paul Dukas und Alfred Cortot und wurde Direktor des Opernhauses seiner Geburtsstadt Cluj. 1938 emigrierte er nach Palästina. Hier wirkte er als Lehrer am Konservatorium von Tel Aviv. Neben Musikern wie Paul Ben-Haim, Marc Lavry und Ödön Pártos gilt er als Vertreter eines (ost)mediterranen Musikstils, dessen Konzept Max Brod in seiner 1951 erschienenen Schrift Die Musik Israels darstellte. Dieser Stil ist gekennzeichnet durch unregelmäßige Metrik, Wiederholungen und Variationen, vereinfachte oder fehlende Mehrstimmigkeit, eine jüdisch-jemenitisch geprägte Melodik und den bevorzugten Gebrauch von Instrumenten wie Klarinett (de)
