John Mark Ainsley (born 9 July 1963) is an English lyric tenor. Known for his supple voice, Ainsley is particularly admired for his interpretations of baroque music and the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. More recently he has gravitated successfully towards 20th-century music, singing in operas by Henze, Janáček, and Britten.

Anschließend wurde er von Diane Forlano weiter ausgebildet. 1990 hatte er sein Amerika-Debüt mit Konzerten in New York und Boston und 1992 in Deutschland mit den Berliner Philharmonikern. Seinen ersten Auftritt in Österreich hatte er 1993 beim Wiener Musikverein mit der Matthäuspassion und der Johannespassion unter der Leitung von Peter Schreier. Die Rolle des Evangelisten in Bachs Passionen wurde zu einem wichtigen Teil in seinem Repertoire. Weiterhin bekannt ist Ainsley als Interpret deutscher Lieder. (de)

En ópera se destaca en Idomeneo, La clemenza di Tito, Orfeo y Don Ottavio en Don Giovanni.Ha cantado en el Covent Garden, el Festival de Salzburgo, el Festival de Glyndebourne, la Ópera de San Francisco, en Múnich, Viena, Nueva York, etc. En 2007 se unió civilmente al organista William Whitehead.
