Foi maestro principal da Orquestra Filarmônica de Estrasburgo de 1950 a 1963 e da Orquestra Sinfónica da SWR de 1964 a 1979. Dedicou-se sobretudo à música do século XX (Alban Berg, Béla Bartók, Paul Hindemith, Henryk Górecki, Karlheinz Stockhausen ou Iannis Xenakis). Ernest Bour (April 20, 1913 - June 20, 2001) was a noted conductor. Born in Thionville, Moselle (in north-eastern Lorraine, then part of Germany), Bour studied at both the University and the Conservatoire of Strasbourg. His conducting teachers included Fritz Münch and Hermann Scherchen. Perhaps his most heard recording is of Ligeti's Atmospheres with the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra aka Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks Baden-Baden heard on the soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Bour died in Strasbourg, aged 88. Ernest Bour (* 20. April 1913 in Diedenhofen; † 20. Juni 2001 in Straßburg) war ein französischer Dirigent, Spezialist der klassischen Moderne und der Avantgarde seiner Zeit. Er erhielt seine musikalische Ausbildung am Straßburger Konservatorium und begann seine Tätigkeit als Dirigent der Straßburger Philharmoniker. 1964–1979 beerbte er Hans Rosbaud als Chefdirigent des SWF Sinfonieorchesters Baden-Baden. Bour starb 88-jährig in Straßburg.
