Anatol Vieru (Romanian pronunciation: [anaˈtol viˈeru]; 8 June 1926 – 1998) was a music theoretician, influential pedagogue, and a leading Romanian-Jewish composer of the 20th century. A pupil of Aram Khachaturian, he composed seven symphonies, eight string quartets, numerous concertos, and much chamber music. He also wrote three operas: Iona (1976), Praznicul Calicilor (1981), and Telegrame, Tema si Variatiuni (1983). He was awarded Herder Prize in 1986. Anatol Vieru (* 8. Juni 1926 in Iași; † 8. Oktober 1998 in Bukarest) war ein rumänischer Komponist und Dirigent jüdischer Herkunft. Анато́ль Вие́ру (рум. Anatol Vieru; 8 июня 1926, Яссы — 8 октября 1998, Бухарест) — румынский композитор, музыкальный теоретик, педагог. Anatol Vieru (Iași, 8 juin 1926 - Bucarest, 15 octobre 1998) est un compositeur, théoricien de la musique et pédagogue roumain. Ses œuvres ont été jouées partout dans le monde dans le cadre de festivals internationaux majeurs de musique contemporaine. Élève de Leon Kleper, Paul Constantinescu et Theodor Rogalski au conservatoire de Bucarest (1946-1951), puis d'Aram Khachaturian au conservatoire de Moscou (1951-1955), Vieru avait reçu dès 1946 le prix « Georges Enesco » pour sa Suite en style ancien pour orchestre à cordes, composée en 1945 avant l'âge de 20 ans.
