Florian Leopold Gassmann (3 May 1729 – 21 January 1774) was a German-speaking Bohemian opera composer of the transitional period between the baroque and classical eras. He was one of the principal composers of dramma giocoso immediately before Mozart.

  • Florian Leopold Gassmann (Most, 3 mei 1729 – Wenen, 20 januari 1774) was een Boheems componist. Hij is bekend geworden door zijn werk in Wenen, onder andere als balletcomponist. In 1766 nam hij Antonio Salieri mee naar Wenen en werd zijn leermeester. Leopold Gassmann schreef meer dan 50 symfonieën, 25 opera's en vele werken op het gebied van de sacrale muziek en kamermuziek. Met zijn muziek kondigt Gassmann de Wiener Klassik aan. (nl)

  • Iniziò a studiare musica con Johann Woborschill presso l'istituto gesuita di Chomutov e successivamente si recò in Italia, dove fu allievo di Padre Martini. Iniziò la sua attività operistica con la messa in scena dell'opera Merope durante il Carnevale del 1757 al Teatro San Moisè di Venezia. Fu grande amico di Christian Joseph Lidarti. Dal 1757 al 1762 scrisse un'opera ogni anno per la stagione di Carnevale a Venezia e nel 1757 fu direttore del coro delle ragazze del Conservatorio degli Incurabili. Molti dei libretti usati furono scritti dal commediografo veneziano Carlo Goldoni. (it)
