Ramón Montoya (November 2, 1879, Madrid, Spain – June 20, 1949, Madrid, Spain), Flamenco guitarist and composer. Born into a family of Gitano (Romani) cattle traders, Ramón Montoya used earnings from working in the trade to purchase his first guitar. He began playing in the cafés de cante before he was twenty years of age. He was the single most influential flamenco guitarist of the 20th century. His innovations made possible the solo careers of such later greats as Sabicas, Manitas de Plata and Manuel Molina. He is the uncle of flamenco guitarist Carlos Montoya.

  • Ramón Montoya Salazar (* 2. November 1880 in Madrid; † 20. Juli 1949) war ein spanischer Flamenco-Gitarrist und Komponist. Aus einer Kalé-Familie von Viehhändlern stammend, verwendete Ramón seine allerersten Einnahmen für den Kauf einer Gitarre. Als Teenager begann er in Cafés den Flamenco zu spielen, bis er im Café de la Marina in Madrid ein ständiges Engagement erhielt. Dort traf er auf die Gitarristen Amalio Cuenca und El Cañito, die die größten Flamenco-Sänger Madrids begleiteten und ihm die traditionellen Rhythmen und Techniken des Flamenco beibrachten. 1912 lernte er den Flamenco-Sänger Don Antonio Chacón kennen, mit dem ihn eine jahrzehntelange Zusammenarbeit verband. Sein Spiel wurde auch beeinflusst von den klassischen Gitarristen Francisco Tárrega und dessen Schüler Miguel Llobet. (de)
