Alain Meunier (born 1942) is a French cellist. Meunier was born in Paris, the third child among four siblings. Starting the cello at the age of 13 and received premier prix in chamber music at 15 and in cello at 16. He suddenly quit musical activities at the age of 18 and studied musical aesthetics and musicology. However, he began cello again as 22 and played in front of Pablo Casals aiming at Prades Festival. He entered Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena in Italy, and was a member of an ensembre "Piano Quintetto Chigiana" after graduation. He also studied cello with Maurice Maréchal.

Il commence le violoncelle à 13 ans et reçoit un premier prix de musique de chambre à 15 ans et un premier prix de violoncelle à 16. Il quitta soudainement ses activités musicales à l'âge de 18 ans et étudia l'esthétique et la musicologie. Il a enseigné à l'Accademia Musicale Chigiana pendant 22 ans, ainsi qu'au Conservatoire de Lyon. Il est professeur au Conservatoire de Paris depuis 1989, et est directeur du Concours international de quatuor à cordes de Bordeaux. (fr)
